Saturday Sketch – May sketch #2

Here’s a late ‘Saturday sketch’ for all you fans – sorry for the delay!! :(

Above layout by Elizna Parsons: Kaisercraft mini alphas,Pina Colada Papers,Pina Colada Epoxy Brads,Kaisercraft Rub-ons,Kaisercraft Rhinestones {different colours} Kaisercraft Pearl strip {black}.

“It is just such a pleasure to do a layout by using a sketch. It saves so much time as you can just play around with the design to fit your photos and style of scrapbooking. I’ve made the circle much smaller to accommodate another photo. And I have decided to put my title at the bottom right hand corner. With Kaisercraft rub-ons I added more words, such as “explore” and “enjoy” to add to the title. I again used my favourite embellishments…rhinestones! And I did some fake stitching to add interest to this layout. Adding in buttons and “scattered” bling adds to the playfulness of this layout”.

Layout by Alicia Barry.  Utopia papers, paper pad, Kaisercraft alpha stickers, Kaisercraft rhinestones.

“It’s ununsual for me to follow a sketch so closely, but this time all I did was turn it upside down. It’s fun to see how different the same design looks, but with different papers and colours”.

Above layout by Tanya Tahir.  Tea at Elsie’s Collection papers, die cut elements, clear stamps, rubons (Babies), alpha stickers (Cream), chipboard letters.

“I wanted to scrap just the one photo so  I adapted the sketch slightly and moved certain elements around the page to fit the design, whilst sticking to the basics of the sketch”.

And her layout:

And here’s Chrissy’s layout, again using the loire valley digital kit:

“I used a transparency from the Loire Valley kit to add a pattern to the papers. For elements I used the Camp Stoneybrook, Grunge and Loire Valley kits, amongst others.”

I created the scalloped edge by using a round brush to stamp along each edge of a rectangle, then clipping the green paper to it. I then used a smaller brush to remove circles along the scallop to create holes.”

Friday focus on Kaisercraft Digital

Our very talented Creative Team member, Sandra van der Geest has been busy making hybrid cards!

“Both cards are made with a quilling technique called husking, which means that you wrap the small paperstrips around pins”.

I printed one of the butterfly brushes from the Flutterby kit first, to use as a model. See picture below!”

“The background of the card is a paper from the Candyshop kit. The text circle is a brush also, from the Circles brush kit. I erased the edges and the inner part (so the only thing left was the text itself ) and printed this together with the background paper”.

“After I finished the quilled butterfly I added some rhinestones. The antennas of the butterfly are made of a stamen which I colored black, folded and glued on the top of the butterfly’s body”.

“The flower on the other card (below) is a brush from the Loire Valley kit. Just like I did with the butterfly I printed it to use as a model. I quilled the six separate petals first. First, I attached three of these together, then made another layer with the other three and glued one layer on top of the other to make it more dimensional. The blue background is a paper from the Loire Valley kit, printed with a brush from the Love brush kit”.

“The black came from the Elements set in the Loire Valley kit. There were already some drawn stitches on this frame. I handstitched these with real thread first (also for more dimension) before I glued the frame on the background with some foam tape. I also printed the red colored flower from the Elements set in the same size as my quilled flower. I attached my quilled flower on top of it and glued it on the frame on the card”.

Next, Sandra’s also made a bunch of cards using the Flutterby kit:

“As also mentioned in the Kaisercraft Scrapping Style Alfabet in the Q2 magazine, Q is for quilling! So I used three different quilling techniques on the cards and added some elements of the digital kit”.

“For the card with the flourish and the flowers (below) , I used the ‘side flourish’-element from the Flutterby kit, digitally erased some parts to make room for my own flowers and printed this on a white Kaisercraft card. I quilled some flowers in different sizes and glued these on the card. I also printed a brush with the text ‘For You’ on the card”.

For the second card (below) with the big poppy I used a quilling technique called husking. This technique is about creating figures by threading paperstrips around pins. I printed the ‘flower-frame’ element from the Flutterby kit in a little smaller size than my card.

I used this as a model to create my quilled poppy by sticking pins on the lines and threading my paperstrips around it. First I quilled each of the five separate petals, then glued them together and attached a quilled flowerheart on top of it.

I printed the flower-frame element again, now in full color, cut it out, inked the edges and glued it with some 3D tape on my card. I attached the quilled poppy on top of it and finished my card with a black line around it.

“For the third card with the butterflies I used the paperstrips in a different way again, now by tying a sort of knot in them while wrapping them around my card. I cut two circles out of my card first. Then I used 14 paperstrips and attached them on the inside of the card in between the two circles. The 14 strips are split in two bundles of 7 strips when they come out of the upper circle and ‘tied’ in a graceful knot. I printed some of the butterflies from the Flutterby kit, cut them out and attached them on the card”.

On another quick note before we go….

Scrapbook Magazine (UK) recently had a feature article about digital scrapbooking, one of our talented Creative Team members, Kathleen was lucky enough to be featured on the cover – and her layouts featuring Kaisercraft products are also featured on page 30 – 33. Saturday Sketch Challenge – April sketch #4

Here’s this week’s sketch – it’s the last one for April – so don’t forget to scrap a layout to be in the draw to win a fun prize!!

Here’s what Christine had to say about her layout, “I used the Gypsy Sister’s paper collection and rotated the sketch 90 degrees to the right.  I added in an extra little photo and some journaling up the top right”.

“Rock Star” by Christine Rumley – Gypsy Sister’s Paper Collection, Die-cut Elements, Acrylic Stamps and Cream Alpha Stickers.

And a simple layout from Nancy,

“I started out by inking all the edges of my background paper with lilac ink. I then attached rectangle pieces of patterned paper in a “criss-cross” pattern to draw the eye to the center of the page. A big flower that I hand-cut from paper makes a nice statement in the top left corner of the page. I added the lace along the bottom of the photo for a bit of pretty texture and the snipped & curled paper along the right edge of the photo give the eyes a good stopping point and draws the focus back to the photo. The flower buttons finish off the page with a bit of “glam” .”

Materials used: Utopia collection papers- Oasis (P502- front), Idyllic (P503- front), Tranquil (P504- front & back), Paradise (P505- back), Euphoria (P506- front), Bliss (P507); Die Cuts (DC316); Rub-Ons (RB809,RB812); Ink (Lilac- IP715). Other: sewing machine, thread, lace trim, flower & gem buttons.

And another layout from Sam,

And now for our digital template/sketch – this week from Kathleen!

Just click on the sketch to download your FREE template!! This template even includes a freebie flower brush from the Rustic Charm kit!

And her layout:

“For those looking for a little more info on the recoloring the Rustic Charm papers, all I did was use the Hue slider to a value of 146 and then I reduced the saturation depending on my personal taste. That’s it! :)

Materials: Rustic Charm mega kit

And here’s Chrissy’s take on it,

“I used various kits for it, including little miss and amour. I also used the stitching, the flourish and the journalling brush sets”.

Materials: Little Miss basic kit, Amour mega kit.

And Carole’s:

Materials: Friday Night Jive mega kit

And Donna’s:

“I totally flipped and twisted the layout, so I can accommodate the orientation of my photos. I used blending mode (Color dodge) to achieve the background look, and the brushes (stars and word “adorable”) to create embellishment, picked colors from the papers and 25px stroke to make it stand out”.

Materials: Little Man basic kit.

And Kerry’n's layout:

“I have used the Grunge kit. I have used the grungy boys kit for this birthday themed layout. Altering the photos to chocolate black and whites made it easy to match all of the papers and elements. I love how the template allows for multiple photos and scatters them for a fun effect”.

Materials: Grunge Mega kit

Kaisercraft’s Friday Focus on Digital….

We’ve got a MAMMOTH sized post for you today!

First up an tutorial by Katharyn Brine on creating your custom made forum signature!!

1. Pick out an alpha set and some elements you’d like to use in your signature and open them in Photoshop. I’m using Photoshop Elements 6.0 but the basic directions should work with most photo-altering software.

2. Create a new 12 x 12 inch canvas, with RGB colour and a transparent background.

3. Drag your lettering onto your canvas and arrange how you’d like it.

4. Add your elements. I used stamps from Kaisercraft’s Bloom digi kit and some stitching to “attach” them to the background.

5. Add text with a text box, ensuring you use larger lettering because it needs to still be legible when you resize the image later. Here I added in the rest of my screen name, and the design teams I’m creating for.

6.Add shadows to various elements to make it appear more realistic. Hide some behind your lettering.

7. Crop your work down to size, leaving a small bleed around the outside edges.

Resize it to about 300 pixels wide (make sure to check the “constrain proportions” box).  Standard blinkie size is 150pix x 50pix, so you may need to resize your siggie again to fit the particular forum’s guidelines.

8. Upload it to a photo-sharing website, such as photobucket or picasa.

9. Right-click on the image, copy the IMG code. Go to the forum you want to use your new siggie in, paste in the IMG Code you copied at Picasa / Photobucket. Save.

10.Done!

Next up is a gorgeous quick page from Carole!

Just click on the image to download it!

“All that is needed for this quick page is a photo, print the layout, print the textured flowers, cut, and attach to the layout using brads etc.  If you want to add more texture you can crumple them inyour hands for more texture.  There you go, instant hybrid layout. :)

You can download the flowers (jpg.) – ready to print. (click on image below), or download the png file here to make yours a digital layout!

Make sure you check back tomorrow for some more Saturday sketch fun!!
