Festive Home Decorating

Hi Everyone!

I don’t know about you, but I just love decorating the house with hand- made festive joy.

Today, Leanne and I are sharing a little festive home decorating and beyond the page items, Kaisercraft Christmas style.

The Holly Wreath is perfect for welcoming the festive season.

Holly Wreath by Trudi Harrison.  Materials Used:  Holly Wreath (SB2078); ‘Tis The Season Collection Patterned Papers ‘Choir’ (P563), ‘Sleigh’ (P566) & Paper Pad (PP830); Pearl Brads – Chocolate (EM935); Rhinestone Strip – Clear (RS451); Grosgrain Ribbon – Earth (RI607); Wood Flourish – Peace (SB737); File Set.

Other: Ribbon, Dimensional Magic, Diamond Dust, Kindy Glitz, Aged Mahogany Distress Ink, Glue Stick, Hot Glue

I have covered the holly leaves of the wreath with ‘Tis The Season Patterned Papers ‘Choir’,  ‘Sleigh’ and the smaller green patterned paper from the Paper Pad.  The leaves have been inked for definition and a sprinkling of diamond dust has be applied to add some texture and shine.

The wreath has been decorated with bows, pearl brads and rhinestone strips which have been positioned to appear as though they have been looped around the wreath.  The wood flourish word ‘Peace’ finishes the festive look off.

In preparation for the coming season, Leanne has opted to created a mini album.

“Our Christmas 2010″ by Leanne Allinson: Be Merry patterned paper collection – 6″ paper pad; tiny alphas – latte (ma511); rhinestones – yellow (sb709), deep yellow (sb712), silver(sb700); paint -metallic gold (kc050), mud puddle (kc048); foam tape (t303); album rings – dark brown (mo19).  Other – cardstock; ink; machine stitching; sharpie pen; border punch.

This is what she has to say.

“I wanted to create a mini album that would fit nicely into my children’s hands, so the smaller scale of the tiny alphas reflected exactly what I had in mind.”

To create a similar mini cover, assemble a Christmas scene from the gorgeous “Be Merry” patterned paper collection.  The 6″ papers are just begging to be cut out into individual pieces! Add some foam tape to the reindeer and Christmas tree to enhance a 3D effect and embellish the tree with rhinestones.  Don’t forget to complete the look of the cover by adding your title with the tiny alphas.

Leave the inside pages relatively blank for now.  Embellish only slightly and ensure there is room for future journaling.

grogeous stuff – i hope someone will answer this – the holly wreath – do the pieces come apart so you can easily do each piece individually???
thanks

Hi Marti,

In answer to your question in regards to the holly wreath – Yes the pieces come apart, and they can be easily decorated. The easiest way I found was to trace the outline of each piece onto the paper and then cut out. Then stick the cut out paper onto your MDF piece and lightly sand around the edge to remove any excess and to neaten up

Thanks ever so much for your lovely comment and for visiting the Kaisercraft Blog!

Hi Trudi,
I have just purchased a santa album monologue, and being the first time I’m having a go at decorating it, what do I use to adhere the paper to the letters?

Hi Sue,

When sticking paper to wood product I prefer to use a product called Modge Podge – this can be purchased from most art and craft suppliers. I apply a thin coating with a brush over the wood surface and then place paper down – pressing firm and smoothing out to remove any air pockets/bubbles that may rise. Wipe away any excess that squeezes out around the edges before it dries.

A glue stick could also be used.

Kind Regards

Trudi
