Karen Shady
Hi, my name is Karen, I live with my husband Chris, and 5 children in a quiet little corner of Western Victoria, where we own and run a large cropping farm. In a former life, I was a Nurse, but I am very fortunate now, to be able to be a stay at home mum. I am completely obsessed with scrapbooking, and spend any spare time I have in my little scrap room, it’s my creative escape from life.
Name: Karen Shady
Kaisercraft forum name: Karen67

How long have you been scrapping for and why did you start: I started scrapping 9 years ago in 2001. My Grandmother had recently passed away, and had left us with a huge box of old photos, we didn’t know who half the people were in the photos, and I found it very sad that these people were my family, and I would never know them, or their stories .I didn’t want that to happen to my family photos and stories after I was gone. Not long after that, I stumbled on a scrapbooking magazine in a newsagency, and the rest is history.
Where do you get your inspiration from: I love to browse through magazines, and online galleries and blogs. I find inspiration there, also from songs and quotes, and new products, but my main inspiration comes from the photos themselves, and the stories I want to record.
Favorite subject to scrap: definitely my 5 children, although I do like to scrap our farm photos too.
One word to describe yourself: content
How would you describe your scrapping style: My scrapping style changes, it depends on the products I am using. At the moment, I love to do what I call “shabby chic vintage” layouts. I use a lot of inks, and distressing techniques. I also really enjoy cutting up patterned papers to make my own, original embellishments.
Favorite kaisercraft product: hmmm, can I only choose one? It would have to be the patterned papers Love love love the patterned papers.
Favorite Kaisercraft paper range to date: I think it would have to be “Devonshire”, with “Jungle bug” coming a very close second.
Favorite quote: “You cant continue doing the same thing, and expect a different result” unknown
Favorite book: anything by Rachael Treasure.
Favorite music: Anything country (I know, I know, LOL)
Favorite food: Chocolate ( unfortunately ) I wish I loved brussel sprouts instead.
Any tips for a new scrapper: You don’t have to scrap every single photo, choose the best ones, or the ones that are best suited to the story you want to tell. Also, make sure you scrap the everyday moments as well as the big things, you will treasure
