Susan Longman

A short paragraph about you:
I am a SAHM who works harder now than I did when I was in the corporate sector… I run 3 home industries while the my children are at school. I am a professional face painter working on the spirit of Tasmania through an entertainment group called Creature Tales. My sister, Wendy Smith, and I make handmade scrapbooking embellishments for our little venture called A Lil’ Somethin’. I also make cakes, cupcakes and cake pops from home and have always indulged in a creative past time and love that my artist side is now something I can do fulltime.
I have 2 amazing children, Ashton my boy who is almost 8 and Eve my daughter who is 6. They are my whole life and the subject of the majority of my layouts. My man, Rob and I have been together 11 years and he is amazing about my love for this craft and supports me in every part of it including my spending. Rob is fabulous when it comes to my scrap space too making the things that pop into my head for me.
I have been scrapbooking for 8 years and love the craft so much. My scrapbooking style is quite minimalist in design with use of white space and the majority of my layouts use stamping as a background effect.  I am thrilled to be on Kaisercrafts design team and have the opportunity to showcase the amazing product that the company produces.

How long have you been scrapbooking for and why did you start?
I have been scrapbooking 8 years and it is the familiar story… fell pregnant with my first child and during first 6 weeks off maternity leave all my nesting was done and I still had no baby to occupy me so I went along to a craft group with my mum and there was a lady teaching there…as I was intrigued I bought a magazine and decided it was a great way to document my children’s lives.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
This a hard question as it can hit at any time… I love “pinterest” but do not necessarily pin scrapbooking projects… I am very much a colour driven scrapbooker so I draw inspiration from the tones in the photo I am using and sometime colour based challenge sites… I love home and lifestyle magazines and find the colours in them inspiring too.

Favourite subject to scrap:
Cliché I know but definitely my 2 gorgeous children… I love their stories … just the little quirky things they say and do.

Any tips for a New Scrapper…
Do what makes you happy… don’t be concerned with “rules” or whether other people will think it is “good” because life is too short and a hobby and creating should be for yourself…don’t make it hard work… and if all else fails stick to one or two colours… you can’t go wrong.
