Tuesday Tip – Making your own paper roses.

Tuesdays-Tips-24

Have you ever seen those gorgeous roses adorning people’s scrapbook layouts, and wanted to make one for yourself?

Learn how to today with this fantastic tutorial from our own Pam Thorburn!

1. Cut circles 3-4” in diameter, draw a spiral slightly less than ½” in depth, stopping roughly 1” from the centre. (Fig. 1)
2. Use an embossing tool ( or the end of a pen cap)to trace thickly around the spiral. This will reduce the tension of the paper and make curling the edges of the flower easier. (Fig.2)
3. Cut around spiral and ink the edges. (Fig.3)
4. Curl the edges over as shown in Fig. 4. Don’t worry if the edges tear a bit.
5. Add dry adhesive (or double sided tape to the centre of the spiral, (Fig.5) and to the start of the outer edge of the spiral. (Fig. 6)
6. Starting at the outer edge of the spiral, begin to wind the spiral in towards the centre. (Fig. 7)
7. Continue winding, whilst at the same time curling the spiral edge over.
8. When the wound spiral reaches the centre, press the rose down into the dry adhesive. If the spiral appears to be too tight allow it to loosen a bit before pressing down. Hold for a few seconds to ensure the rose is firmly adhered. It is okay is the rose squashes down quite a bit. You need to show the paper who’s boss-so don’t be afraid to be a bit rough!(Fig. 8 )
