Tuesday Tip – stencilled journalling blocks

Tuesdays-Tips-17

A few weeks ago we shared a clever way on reusing packaging as embellishments and ‘stencils’ etc. Fran first showed us this tip by using die-cut element packaging as masks/stencils.

It proved so popular, one of our other DT members, Pam decided to show you another way how to use them!

Here’s what she had to say….

“You know all those wonderful die cut journaling blocks the Kaiser make to match all their ranges? Well, don’t throw away the frames when the diecuts have been used. The frame make great stencils for creating a journaling block onto patterned paper that otherwise might be too busy to journal on.”

Steps:

  1. Apply some temporary adhesive on the back of the frame and position onto your patterned paper.
  2. Dip a stencilling brush into acrylic paint, wipe excess paint off onto some kitchen paper and stencil through the shape with a stamping motion.
  3. Wait until paint is quite dry before journaling. If the pattern is still showing through too much, repeat the stencilling. Make sure paint is dry before journaling, or you will ruin your pen.
  4. Complete your journaling. My favourite pen for writing over acrylic paint is a Pitt pen by Faber Castell.

“My example (above) is a handmade postcard for a friend I use the KC frame to stencil an address label. When I write the address in it will be so much easier for the postie to find and read the address.
