Looking for an opinion

Postby Mister Turtle on Wed Mar 11, 2009 3:09 pm

Hi, I'm looking for an opinion on this layout, I did it using this months new Kaiser papers and I had it in my head from when I first saw them, it doesn't seem to have transfered to the paper very well though and the 3 people I've shown it too all didn't like it so feeling a bit deflated:-( Its growing on me and I spent a while on it so bit disappointed with it. I'd love to know what you all think of it so I've put a picture below (unfortunately its not the best photo) Image
Give me honest opinions if its rubbish I'd rather you said that way I have something to work on:-)

I think it is a gorgeous layout! My only comment is that I think the tree gets a bit 'lost' being in the trapeze paper. Maybe try a different more contrasting paper for the tree so it stands out a bit more ?? (maybe the sideshow paper instead??) But then again, I'm no expert!

Good luck and don't do your head in over it!!

Cheers, Penny

I thought that too, but I'd already stuck it down by then and it would have been a huge job to rip it all off again. Plus I don't like to waste too many sheets of the new paper when I'm supposed to be selling it!!! (I usually try do a layout with new papers to display but this one will be going in the back cupboard!) I tried inking the edges but think changing the paper would make all the difference

Hi Mr Turtle, if time is essence then how about making a box (the top portion / area where entire area of the tree-top and title sits) black. Can you try to colour with dark-blue or black marker or use dark-colour material to cover it ? This is just a suggestion. The design is very nice and you must have spent some time on the cut-outs of the trees and birds, i think its the background colour that drowns the beautiful headings that glitters. Sometimes contrast colours work, all the best!

I agree that your cute little animals just seem to get a bit lost in that big spoty tree ... one thing you could try is to tone down the impact of those spots .... you could do this by simply chalking over it with a red chalk, you can make the covering as dark or light as you like, and see what really suits it, and the best thing is that if you don't like the chalk effect then you can just use a chalk eraser to get rid of it all again.
It's still a great LO as it is thought ... i wouldn't put it in the back cupboard at all..... putting it on display will still show case the papers and products, and even if you are not completely happy with it, you can always point to it and say ....'see not even I always get it right!' .... this will really inspire your newbys to stick with it and know that picture perfect perfection is not always nessasary!
Good luck with it all... :D

I love it! The tree stands out much better and I love the green circle you've used in the top right corner to highlight the cheeky monkey words as well. Put it on display proudly!

Cheers,

i think both LOs turned out ok, i prefer the second one, but thinking maybe the animals are a little too pail coloured for the other papers, but it may just be the photo as LOs are always better in the flesh so to speak. but i think you have done a wonderful job :)

LOL... well I'll put a spanner in the works and say I liked the first one best, but would have inked the edges of the tree lightly with black to help it stand out, would probably have mounted it on foam tape too to give it some height, then done the same with the animals. I think I would've moved the cheeky monkeys words to slightly over and below the photo so that you had some nice white space around it. But that's just my style and you've got a great eye for colour and balance so go for it!

I think that was the problem though, the edges were inked and it was mounted on foam tape and so are the animals the just still didn't seem to stand out. Still don't think I'm overly happy with either of them. I had the image in my head as soon as I saw the new releases but it just didn't transfer to the paper as well as I'd hoped :(

Mister Turtle...never loose focus of why we scrapbook! Your children will love that LO regardless of the perfection.

I personally scrapbook so that my family may enjoy the moments I cherished for years to come. Crafting is theraputic for me and I love to create. I think we can all find fault in the details but I have to remind myself that when my kids are grown and are looking at these albums they will feel the love I put into each and every page.

Your LO is adorable!
